October 2008 Prayer Alert
"On your walls, O Jerusalem, I have appointed watchmen; all day and all night they will never keep silent. You who remind the Lord, take no rest for yourselves; and give Him no rest until He establishes and makes Jerusalem a praise in the earth."- Isaiah 62: 6-7

The Lord is fulfilling this passage in Arizona with watchmen on the wall all day and all night throughout our state. We are in the 41st week of passing the torch of 24/7 prayer for 2008 with Lite the Fire (litethefire.org). LoveASU prayer ministry (loveasu.com) is also conducting 24/7 prayer on ASU's Tempe campus during this season. There are countless additional gatherings for worship and prayer taking place as well.
Like the surge for the war on terrorism, there are times necessary for a sustained surge in intercession. The Lord is clearly saying that this is such a time. There are exactly 4 weeks - 28 days - remaining until the Presidential and General Election Day on November 4. Candidates stand on opposite sides regarding critical Biblical issues, including the fundamental sanctity of life and marriage. Our economy is on the precipice of collapse. The war on terrorism continues. Our nation is divided.
It is a time to acknowledge our complete dependence on God and worship Him. It is a time of humility and repentance. It is a time to stand in the gap for the people and the land. "The effective prayer of a righteous man can accomplish much." - James 5:16.

I. OUR CHILDREN. "Arise, cry out in the night, as the watches of the night begin, pour out your heart like water in the presence of the Lord. Lift up your hands to Him for the lives of your children, who faint from hunger at the head of every street." - Lamentations 2:19. This passage has been struck on the heart of trusted intercessors among us. The onslaught upon our children is relentless. Thus, we cannot relent. From abortion to drugs to a perverted world view in our education system and media, the next generation is under siege and we must continue to fight for them -- and it begins by pouring out our hearts in prayer.
II. MARRIAGE. Not only our children, but marriage is under siege. Directly pray that Arizona voters would vote "YES" for Prop 102 on the ballot to preserve the traditional definition of marriage as between one man and one woman. Pray for California as well. Along with our marriage amendment on the ballot, California and Florida have similar ballots to preserve marriage which will impact our nation. "Let marriage be held in honor among all." - Hebrews 13:4.
III. THE ELECTIONS. Mail-in ballots are now in the hands of Arizona voters. Continue to cry out for the mountain of deception to be removed from all voters' eyes, ears, and hearts. "Truly I say to you, if you have faith, and do not doubt...even if you say to this mountain, 'Be taken up and cast into the sea,' it shall happen. And all things you ask in prayer, believing, you shall receive." - Matthew 21:21-22. Particularly pray for the Church to be engaged and to know God's chosen national and state leaders according to His righteousness and justice. Pray for pastors to be bold in speaking the truth to congregations throughout Arizona and our nation regarding the important issues at stake.
IV. THE BORDER. Arizona is a key state in the critical border issues we face. Pray that we would lead the way in seeking God's wisdom for the reconciliation of Mexico and the U.S. In particular, pray that God would establish watchmen on the wall - "houses of prayer" - along the nearly 2,000 mile border from the Pacific Ocean at San Diego-Tijuana to the Gulf of Mexico at Brownsville-Matamoros, including at Nogales and other key entry points on the Arizona border with Mexico.
V. THE ECONOMY. We have been blessed and prosperous as a nation because we have historically honored and blessed God. "Blessed is the nation whose God is the Lord." - Psalm 33:12. God's word makes it clear that there is a vital relationship between acknowledging God and our national blessing. Yes, let us pray for our government and business leaders to have wisdom and the heart of God during these difficult times. Yes, we must repent of those things that are corrupt in our business practices and wrong toward Israel that bring judgment upon our nation. But, this is also a time for us to give thanks for what God HAS given us! Gratitude toward God is essential. As we give thanks, let us watch as God begins to multiply our supply.
VI. THE MEDIA. Never does the Media rear its head so much as during an election season where the stakes are high to influence the shape of our government. Its bias is evident in nearly all of its presentation where there is a descriptive application of the scripture that it "walks according to the course of the world, according to the prince of the power of the air, of the spirit that is now working in the sons of disobedience." - Ephesians 2:2. Pray for truth to surface and any bias and distortions to be evident to the public.
VII. OUR DIVIDED NATION. Our nation is divided and there will be strong pressures to become more divided regardless of which way the elections go. There is also a general national dissatisfaction resulting in a heart cry for change. Some of this is goaded by the Media and some is fueled by the realization that not all is right in our government and culture. But this cry for change can be easily misplaced. As a recent prophetic word has said, "Our cry for mercy must be greater than the cry for change!" Let us cry out for mercy for our nation.
